Today’s Tips for Twirlers with Rebecca Lantz!!
1. How to continue working when you happen to “fail” something: I don’t consider not being able to do a trick failing, because the job/practice isn’t over until I’ve achieved it or at least felt like I’ve gotten as close as I can for the day. Sometimes it’s best to take a deep breath and leave it for another practice.
2. What motivates you: When I competed I was motivated by a determination to prove to myself that I could achieve what I committed to. It also helped to have teammates/coaches who pushed me when I didn’t feel up to pushing myself.
3. Hardest trick to learn but worth it: There are two tricks that I struggled with and had to really commit a significant amount of time and effort into solidifying enough to put them in my routines. The first was my monster roll, and the second is a 2-baton elephant roll combo. The latter was arguably more frustrating to learn because of the multiple moving parts of it. 4. Advice for other twirlers: Try, try, and try again, this sport isn’t meant to be easy. When something feels or looks to difficult to learn, look back on the many other tricks that you’ve conquered even though they had seemed impossible at the time. It can also help to look for inspiration in those around you; look up YouTube videos and be encouraged by what is possible.
