My most embarrassing story comes from AYOP, a few years back when I was competing age 12 in pre-teen. After a good Tuesday in front of the blue curtain, I was so nervous for pageant day. My nerves definitely got to me for the first event of the day, strut. My strut was pretty decent up until when I DROPPED in the beginning of my 5th leg. I was very disappointed in myself but I used that as motivation to have one of my best solos ever and a solid modeling/ interview. Definitely not my proudest moment in competition but it ended up all working out in the end!

At AYOP about 4 years ago, I had a really embarrassing moment. So the whole day I had the worst feeling in my stomach and I couldn’t shake it. As I was warming up for two baton,my favorite event, something just didn’t feel quite right. As I took the floor to compete I was probably the most scared I have ever been in my entire life to compete.I went through the whole routine, and it was a pretty good routine. But as I did my ending solute I turned around and threw up on the floor. Yep, there was a gasp from everyone in the field house. I ran off the floor crying and went straight to my mom. I couldn’t believe what I had just did. After this experience I have learned that your mental state controls what happens on the floor. You have to be in the right mind set and not work yourself up before you compete. This was a very valuable lesson to me that getting nervous simply does you no good.

Here’s my story!
The first time I was doing x-strut at nationals, I got super stressed, so I forgot my opening pose, didn’t start when the judge nodded, forgot choreography in my 3rd leg, lost my shoe, and saluted with the wrong end of the baton. I was completely embarrassed when I came off of the floor, and started crying in front of everyone.

My first year in 10-12 I was constantly competing against a really great 12 year-old. She always did amazing in solo and was rather unbeatable, but it wasn’t a big deal to me. I competed in the Wintertime contest where the winners of solo in each age division would get to perform again for a twirl off. They announced me as the winner of solo (against this other great twirler) and I was too shocked and excited to go pick up my score sheet. They then quickly after began the twirl off. To my dismay, I won the twirl off and got a $10 Starbucks gift card because of it! What I then found out later was I actually got second in solo and never should have competed in the twirl off. But they did at least let me keep the gift card!
